Dear friends, as we offer condolences and struggle to come to grips with the aftermath of the earthquake affecting parts of Pakistan and India, I would like to share information with organisations working in the region.
Just got this letter from Amit Chakraborty of PIPFPD:
---------------------------------------------------------------
9th October, 2005
To the Members of the Forum
Friends,
People of Kashmir, especially those of distant hill areas are under the clutch of a devastating natural calamity. They need help and support to be rendered to them immediately.
PIPFPD as it stands for sharing the concern of the people of Kashmir must rise to this occasion also. In fact, The General Secretary Of the PIPFPD India Chapter has reached Kashmir to visit the worst affected areas for assessing the need of the hour of the suffering people there. He is expected to submit his detailed report soon.
However, over a phone call from Srinagar on 9th October evening he streamlined some of the immediate needs:
Voluntary services of the doctors
Medical Supplies
Food and other eatables
Warm Clothing
Tents and other make shift arrangements for shelter
On behalf of the General Secretary Of the PIPFPD India Chapter I request all the members of the forum and all our state chapters to set forward for mobilizing as much support and help as they can with regard to the items mentioned above and rush the materials to Srinagar for catering to the need of the suffering people there.
In this regard further suggestions and positive plan of actions will be much appreciated.
With regards,
(Amit Chakraborty)
