The World Bank's Development Marketplace (DM) Program, in collaboration with the Water and Sanitation Program (WSP) and the Energy Sector Management Assistance Programme (ESMAP), is excited to announce the Call for Proposals for the 2006 Global Development Marketplace (DM2006)! DM expects to award a total of at least US$4 million to winning projects, with a maximum award size of US$200,000. Other award categories may be announced at the event, or in the lead up to the event.
The theme, "Innovations in Water, Sanitation, and Energy Services for Poor People," focuses on 3 major aspects of the Millennium Development Goals and builds on the ongoing efforts of the World Bank, WSP, and ESMAP to increase access to water supply, sanitation and energy services in developing countries in an environmentally and financially sustainable manner.
The objective of DM2006 is to recognize and support innovative and sustainable local-level solutions that address this important theme and have credible potential for replication and scaling-up. In doing so, the World Bank and development community will gain valuable insights on providing effective and efficient service delivery to the poor.
Proposals should be submitted by November 30, 2005 and must address one of the following sub-themes:
Service Delivery : Sustainable delivery of water supply, sanitation, and/or energy services to poor households
Environment : Renewable energy, clean water technologies, energy efficiency, and/or environmentally sustainable sanitation solutions to poor households and to small enterprises
Health: Protecting health from environmental risk factors (indoor air pollution, contaminated drinking water, unsafe sanitation), including innovative programs for hygiene promotion and behavioral change
Natural Resources : Sustainable management of natural resources (land, water, forest) specifically for the provision of water supply, sanitation and energy to the poor
Proposals are welcome from a range of development innovators—civil society groups, social entrepreneurs, private foundations, government agencies, academia, the private sector, as well as staff from the World Bank and other donor organizations.
APPLY NOW! Proposals will be accepted through the DM website at www.developmentmarketplace.org. Please visit the website for competition guidelines, the online proposal form, and step-by-step instructions in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
Please help us to get the word out about DM2006 to your network of professional peers both inside and outside of your organization. |
